Our Identity
LEAD Sierra Leone is a youth-led nonprofit organization founded in 2020 and officially registered as a non-governmental organization operating in Sierra Leone. We work to strengthen inclusive development through community-led and evidence-based interventions. Our name—Leading Effective Action for Development—reflects our commitment to translating community-identified needs into practical, results-driven action.
We operate at the intersection of grassroots action and systems change, engaging institutions and development partners to support lasting impact. Through skills development, community dialogue, environmental action, and evidence-based learning, we address the root causes of inequality, vulnerability, and environmental degradation, with a strong focus on women, youth, and marginalized populations.

1. Education & Youth Empowerment
Equipping young people with practical skills and leadership training to foster employment, entrepreneurship, and civic engagement. By prioritizing marginalized youth and young women, the program strengthens employability, confidence, and participation in community development, advancing SDGs 4, 5, and 8.
2. Health, Gender & Social Equity
Promoting dignity, protection, and inclusion by addressing social and economic drivers of inequality and gender-based violence. Through community dialogue, survivor support, and livelihood assistance, the program empowers women and girls while engaging traditional leaders and local institutions to strengthen safeguarding, social cohesion, and long-term resilience.
3. Environmental Sustainability & Climate Action
Advancing climate resilience and ecosystem restoration through youth-led conservation, adaptation training, and landscape rehabilitation. The program equips young people as climate advocates while restoring degraded land and promoting green livelihoods, positioning communities to lead sustainable, climate-responsive development.
LEAD Sierra Leone works across three interconnected thematic pillars to address the root causes of inequality, youth unemployment, social exclusion, and environmental degradation. Our approach recognizes that sustainable development requires coordinated action across people, systems, and ecosystems. Across all pillars, we emphasize youth leadership, local ownership, scalability, and alignment with national priorities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
